How to prepare for a shoot

Clothes, time of day, how long it takes and what to bring.

Clothes: plain colours and simple cuts almost always work. Small patterns and large logos pull attention. Bring a second outfit even if you are sure about the first — it is often the better one.

Light: the softest light is the first and last hour of daylight. In the studio the time of day does not matter.

Getting ready: finish hair and make-up half an hour before the start, not at the start. That half hour always goes on travel, parking and changing.

Bring: spare shoes, water, clips or pins to fit clothing, and anything that matters to you personally — a piece of jewellery, a book, an instrument, a dog. Personal objects are what make the frame yours.

Outdoors: check the forecast the day before and message me. Rain is not always a reason to move a shoot, but we change the plan in advance rather than on the spot.
